I was struck by how creative the women's fantasies are in this film! There were a couple of new ones I might have to adopt for myself!

The film is dated in a charming way. It's a mockumentary about heterosexual women's fantasies that manages to be authentic and ridiculous.

It has ten vignettes. They are sometimes slow-moving, but most are sexy in a soft-core way. The vignettes are interspersed with commentary by a bizarre professor with a freakish mustache who believes in the sanctity of women's sexual fantasies.

I've been reading Pornified, by Pamela Paul and wanted to diverge from our standard DVD reviews and write about this book.

Pamela Paul (www.pamelapaul.com) Pisses me off. She is like that woman on the PTA board who wants to keep after school sports segregated. She is a journalist for publications such as RedBook,Marie Clare and Ladie's home Joural - all those magazines we gleefully pass over in favour of People and Us while at the denstists or salon. Her pervious books are about Marriage and trying to make a marriage work in this modern world. So of course, she is just the perfect little spitfire for this project.

Her main thrust of the book is what she terms "censure not censor." She raises an irate fist at the adult entertainment industry, describing porn as an addiction that is destroying America. She calls the pro-porn movement and Free Speech coalition hypocrites for championing the first amendment and then stifling the voice of the anti-porn protestors. Pamela needs to take a page from Voltaire, who famously proclaimed " I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Granted, I am a more pro-porn female then many and have a slightly biased view of the industry because I work in it - but I still feel most of her arguments are vague and watery at best, particularly her arguments about what she terms Pro-Porn Feminists.
Thats us, right? She lists of the reasons that Pro-Porn fems aren't really feminists at all, and why they don't really get the dark truth about porn: They only view the soft stuff, the Candida Royalle collections, the womens erotica shelf. They are brainwashed by the patriarchy and the media to think that the only way the can be cool or PC to accept Porn and act into it. Or they are slutty to begin with - women who will do anything for a buck.

While I think Pamela Paul needs to masturbate more, I am intrigued by her arguments and reactions. I think Pronified is an intesting perspective, if a bit nearsited. What are your opinions and thoughts about being Pro-Porn Feminists?

City of Flesh 3 and 5

Since I'm here I thought I should post a few comments about these two movies, which I really enjoyed. I reviewed both these films for my site and, while there were a couple of things I could have done without, they were mostly fab.

COF 3 has an ongoing plot about a couple who are exploring their committment to each other through sex. I recommend this film simply because of the incredible cunnilingus scenes. Maxx is a tongue master who apparently doesn't need to breathe at all. Tribe has not been hit with the 2257 brick. Tribe is *voluntarily* applying the 2257 laws to itself -- its members, the tribes and the very architecture of Tribe itself.

Two weeks ago Tribe asked me for a phone meeting; I didn't know what it was about but I figured it had something to do with Tribe's mature content. They explained to me in a half-hour conference call that they were gearing up to change Tribe's architecture (entry pages, etc) to conform to updated 2257 laws, which are record keeping requirements. The federal law now requires website owners to keep *physical* records documenting, among other things, that "a book, magazine, periodical, film, videotape, digitally- or computer-manipulated image, digital image, picture, or other matter that contains a visual depiction of an actual human being engaged in actual sexually explicit conduct" is over the age of 18. Visual depictions *after* 1990, mind you.

"Sexually explicit conduct" and "obscene" are the key words bandied about by means of definition of what falls into the law. Keeping records, according to this law, means that for each image the webmaster must have copies of the person in the images' Social Security info and legal photo ID, and all names they have ever used in a physical location somewhere; a business that is open at least 20 hours a week.

When the Tribe guys told me what they were doing, I first lamented that I'd just finished wirting a great book about our porn club due out next year (full of awesome quotes from y'all). Then I asked just how they were going to try and define images depicting "sexually explicit conduct" and "obscenity". I explained to them that the definitions in the law are shadowy and subjective at best, and here's why:

Over at adult site Eros Zine, my friend (the editor) had to go through all of their images and try to define the difference between a photo that was sexually explicit vs. not. It made him insane; "Is her butt red from a sunburn or a spanking?! Is she holding her breasts in a sexually explicit way, or just posing!?" Then there's the matter of images that fall into the freedom of speech category -- 2257 would prohibit *everyone* in the US from seeing images such as the prison photos from Abu Ghraib. The law is so broad, it can include bloggers, publishers, television and Hollywood. A political or human rights tribe would be wiped off the Tribe map for failing to conform to the laws, by including an Abu prison photo in their photo album.

I then explained that they were putting themselves in the tricky position of defining obscenity -- that by considering Tribe a porn producer and conforming it to 2257, the law would put them in that position. I explained to them how obscenity is defined in the American court system.

I told them that the state of the law in the United States about sexually explicit material revolves around keeping pornographers and adult retailers on their toes, never knowing for what, or when, they might be prosecuted for offending "community standards." The law in the U.S. states that something is considered "obscene," and therefore illegal to create or distribute, if a court *somewhere* says it is. You might hear people in and out of the adult industry say things like, "Showing urination is illegal," or "Showing S/M with sex is illegal," or "Portraying Bill O'Reilly as a journalist is illegal" (and if isn’t, it should be)—and all these cautious statements are incorrect. In fact, there’s only a single test, which is when a court in any of the 50 states decides that a particular thing (DVD, book, picture, fake journalist, whatever) is, by the "standards of the community," obscene.

No one making porn knows if what they are doing is illegal or not. This situation, I explained, is reminiscent of organized crime tactics, and is not an oversight; the U.S. Supreme Court is quite aware that the only way that retailers and pornographers can really be sure they won’t be prosecuted for "obscene" material is for them to avoid portraying activities that might possibly be interpreted as obscene (and now, sexually explicit) -- anywhere. In a court case for obscenity, the accused is held to whatever the local community’s standards are for obscenity, as determined by a jury.

Okay, I probably left out the part about Bill O'Reilly, but I was on my toes enough to rake them across the coals a bit to try and let them know what they were about to step into. They told me flat out that they felt that the definitions in 2257 in regards to sexually explicit conduct were absolutely clear -- I even asked them to repeat the statement. I asked them to think about the fact that they were going to enter an arena of applying community standards to tribes all over the United States, and what is not obscene here in SF, like a picture of a leatherman in assless chaps, would most certainly be considered obscene to someone in a Kansas tribe.

Their reply to all this was that they were going to rely on users to "flag" images and tribes as obscene. And that they were going to rely on the architecture of Tribe to force people to join in order to even look at a URL. Of course, I was instantly upset about what this means -- the links I have put on Fleshbot, and on my site to the Smart Girls' Porn Club are essentially dead links that lead through a multiple page signup process requiring personal informaiton. No one, I told them, would click through that. Linking to Tribe would be pointless. We'd lose the women who are just curious and maybe a little nervous about porn and exploring their own sexuality -- many of which are in this 450+ member tribe.

I thanked them for the courtesy call; it was clear that they had already decided all of this and the call to me was just to make nice. I told them to please call and talk to Jason Schultz over at the Elecetronic Freedom Foundation before making a move. I don't know if they did; I have yet to talk to Jason. I got notices in my tribe mail about removing images as the moderator of mature tribes, the penalties and the changes to Tribe's Terms of Use. I have done nothing. I am waiting to be penalized.

I think they are making a huge mistake, based on a law that is unenforcable. The law violates privacy -- I was sent the 2257 information for the porn performers I featured in my last podcast. I now have enough information to steal the actual identity, and stalk, every performer in that film. They performers don't even know I have that information, or who else might have it as a legal requirement, and nothing makes me more uncomfortable than having that information in my posession.

The law is meant for primary and secondary producers of porn, not online communities. The law violates our federal right to freedom of speech. The law is obstensibly created "to protect children from being exploited as [porn] performers", not healthy adult enjoyment of human sexuality. In truth, 2257 laws are less about protecting children from porn exploitation, but instead about regulating porn businesses, free speech and healthy adult sexual expression into unfesability.

My boyfriend sent me a link this morning, "check out this dude's Tribe profile!" I clicked the link and went to a signup page, with no login. I signed in, and tried to go to the URL, and went to the same signup page. I can't get to the link. And what will happen to our RSS feeds!? This tribe is now frozen in Tribe time.

No, none of us fit that ever so golden demographic of teenagers who steal from their parents' purses to go to the mall and spend hundreds at Hot Topic and make the advertisers of the world cum in their pants just watching the digits spin- but that was half the beauty of Tribe to me- that it was rising to the challenge of making money, without stooping to all of the LCD tricks of the trade.

Please, please- before Tribe yanks all of it's Mature content, please write- intelligently of course- and make your voices heard!

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has been threatening to make it almost impossible to sell better sex and adult videos or pictures for some time now, but they finally have implemented a law which takes effect June 23rd, 2005 to attempt to do just that. This article will explain to you the consumer, what that means to you.

There is a law that was created in 1988 to protect minors from appearing in adult films, etc... a good law if you ask me as I am very much against minors being involved in anything of the like. The law was in a document called Title 18 U.S.C. § 2257, which is a Federal Record-keeping and Labeling law that required anyone who photographed or filmed a person in the US to have them complete a form that acknowledged that they were 18 years of age or older. They had to provide a picture I.D. issued by the state. and provide any aliases they may have. They needed to provide their legal name, home address and have a witness sign the document. This was a good law that helped to reduce the chance that a minor was being filmed or photographed sexually.

The New Law

What the Department of Justice has now done to change this law using the "excuse" of protecting minors (when in reality it is clear they are trying to impair the adult industry) is an outrage and WILL affect you if you have any liking of sexuality and sexual products, videos, pictures, etc.

The DOJ is now demanding that not only will a producer have the Title 18 U.S.C. § 2257 information for each model that has been photographed or filmed but that anyone who sells or displays the photographs or video has to have that document on file which includes the distributors, retailers and anyone who shows pictures of that model on their web site.

What Types Of Pictures Or Video Is This Talking About?

This pertains to any visual depiction of an actual human being engaged in actual sexually explicit conduct in a book, picture, video, streaming video, thumbnail... you name it.

What do they mean when the say "sexually explicit?" This means (sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, anal-genital, or oral-anal, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex; bestiality; masturbation; sadistic or masochistic abuse; or lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of any person).

The DOJ calls these businesses and individuals who sell or promote such material "Secondary Producers" even though they did not produce anything and are only displaying and/or selling what the "Primary Producer" made!

Under the revised Title 18 U.S.C. § 2257 law, the so-called “secondary producers,” such as many webmasters, will be required to have Title 18 U.S.C. § 2257 records for all sexually explicit depictions dating back to 1995. For many, this will create a huge problem, because secondary producers will have to locate records from primary producers who may have moved, shut down, or otherwise disappeared.

This means that the adult community has exactly one month to secure these files and make sure everything in them complies with the new regulations, because the arrests could hit anytime after June 24, and the general consensus is that it'll hit webmasters first and hardest.

What Are The Penalties For Not Complying?

In the immediate future, you're going to be seeing inspections and arrests, not because of 'illegal' content, but because webmasters and stores don't have the records because they always thought that it was and should be the producer's job to make sure that the models are over 18 years of age. Violation of 18 U.S.C. 2257 is good for up to 10 years in federal prison... per violation!

Example

Below is a very small scale of what this will look like. Imagine that it is for one video with six models in it. All six of the model's personal information, home address, real name, and picture of their ID has to be on file with every single store or individual who sells that video. Now, imagine that each store who carries hundreds of videos has the burden to have all of those files for each model in every video they carry!

This isn't just for retailers either... this is for anyone displaying such pictures on their web site, etc.! So what happens if you don't comply? Well, you can go to jail! Yep, that is right... even if a producer has proof that the models were over 18 years of age and no minors were involved... if you do not have the paperwork and you display the photographs or video or sell them... you are now breaking the law.

What harm has been committed here is beyond me. Why we now have to go to the trouble of proving that all the videos that we carry are of models of 18 years of age or older by having those model's Title 18 U.S.C. § 2257 forms on file is truly a conservative agenda to make the adult industry fight to stay alive.

The Real Motivation Is Not Protecting Kids

This is clearly not about protecting minors. If the Department of Justice really wanted to protect minors they would simply have producers of pictures and video, etc. provide documentation directly to them in a federal database proving the models in film or photographs are adults. Simple enough right?

It would work well this way, because everything would have to be registered with them and if it wasn't then they could easily check. However, the REAL MOTIVATION is to shut down adult retailers and you can bet they have a list of companies they are going to start with... and you can also bet that getting access to any kind of sexual content will be increasingly difficult as the the DOJ continues to take away the freedoms of Americans.

This is an attack, we are back to the dark ages of witch hunts and instead of burning innocent people at the stake they are putting them in jail and ripping apart their businesses and families.

Why is sexuality so terrifying in this day and age? Why is masturbation and nudity seen as something that is listed right beside beastiliaty and child molestation? Have people absolutely lost their minds? They are so different than one another. It is like comparing someone who has a normal sleep pattern to someone who has narcolepsy. One is normal, one is an illness!

Over fifty percent of the web sites out there will most likely be devastated because they're carrying content, either thumbnails or streaming or fixed photos that they have no records for and they will be at risk to get 10 years in the slammer for it.

Breach Of Confidentiality

This does not even mention the incredible breach of confidentiality that is going on here. The models have to provide their home address, real names and photos of their ID cards to all of these retailers, which in turn basically makes it public information!?! That is absurd. Do you know how many psychos want to track down models in the adult industry and now we are having to pass around their real names and home address!?!

Making It Very Hard To Sell Videos Or Show Pictures

This new law is requiring stores like ours to have to track down producers and ask them for the paperwork on all of their models in order to sell their video. Until we have that paperwork on file, we cannot show the images online or sell them without breaking the law. It is evident that the US is becoming less and less of a free democracy making it more and more difficult for adults to enjoy and be educated on the basic human right of sexuality.

The Free Speech Coalition Are Fighting This!

Now that the regulations have been published, FSC (Free Speech Coalition) will go into federal district court to seek an injunction on behalf of its members. FSC plans two lawsuits, led by premiere First Amendment attorneys, one to be filed on the West Coast by H. Louis Sirkin, and the other by Paul Cambria on the East Coast.

The DOJ has amended some requirements from its original proposal, but in many areas the final version is unbending, making compliance extremely difficult, if not impossible.

Will They Win?

Right now, it really does not look good. The FSC may make a dent in some minor changes, but overall this ridiculous law looks like it will be around to stomp on the sexual freedoms of all Americans.

What Will Become Of Our Company & Products

With such a conservative, anti-sex government right now it is hard to predict the future. While we may have to discontinue selling some of our videos until we can find the producers to get the necessary paperwork on each of the models in those videos, we will do our best to keep our current selection of videos available as well as new releases.

However, what you may see happen is that we like many companies may be unable to secure some of the proper release forms on some of the older videos as the producers may be impossible to find... so if you want a Better Sex Videos from our site, now would be the time to buy it as we may not be able to offer it down the road.

Washington -- The FBI is joining the Bush administration's War on
Porn. And it's looking for a few good agents.

Last month, the bureau's Washington Field Office began recruiting for
a new anti-obscenity squad. Attached to the job posting was a memo
from FBI headquarters to all 56 field offices, describing the
initiative as "one of the top priorities" of Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales and, by extension, of "the Director," Robert Mueller.

The new squad will divert eight agents, a supervisor and assorted
support staff to gather evidence against "manufacturers and purveyors"
of pornography -- not the kind exploiting children, but the kind that
depicts, and is marketed to, consenting adults.

"I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated
FBI agent, speaking on condition of anonymity because poking fun at
headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing. "We must not need
any more resources for espionage."

Among friends and trusted colleagues, an experienced national security
analyst said, "it's a running joke for us."

Federal obscenity prosecutions, which have been out of style since
Attorney General Edwin Meese in the Reagan administration made

Applicants for the porn squad should therefore have a stomach for the
kind of material that tends to be most offensive to local juries.
Community standards -- along with a prurient purpose and absence of
artistic merit -- define criminal obscenity under current Supreme
Court doctrine.

"Based on a review of past successful cases," the memo said, the best
odds of conviction come with pornography that "includes bestiality,
urination, defecation, as well as sadistic and masochistic behavior."
No word on the universe of other kinks that helps make porn a
multibillion-dollar industry.

Popular acceptance of hard-core pornography has come a long way, with
some of its stars becoming mainstream celebrities and their products
-- once confined to seedy shops and theaters -- being "purveyed" by
upscale hotels and most home cable and satellite television systems.
Explicit sexual entertainment is a profit center for companies,
including General Motors Corp. and Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. (the
two major owners of DirecTV), Time Warner Inc. and the Sheraton,
Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt hotel chains.

But Gonzales endorses the rationale of predecessor Meese: that adult
pornography is a threat to families and children. Christian
conservatives, long skeptical of Gonzales, greeted the pornography
initiative with what the Family Research Council called "a growing
sense of confidence in our new attorney general."

Congress began funding the obscenity initiative in fiscal 2005 and
specified that the FBI must devote 10 agents to adult pornography. The
bureau decided to create a dedicated squad only in the Washington
Field Office. "All other field offices may investigate obscenity cases
pursuant to this initiative if resources are available," the directive
from headquarters said. "Field offices should not, however, divert
resources from higher priority matters, such as public corruption."

Public corruption, officially, is fourth on the FBI's priority list,
after protecting the United States from terrorist attacks, foreign
espionage and cyber-based attacks. Just below those priorities are
civil rights, organized crime, white-collar crime and "significant
violent crime." The guidance from headquarters does not mention where
pornography fits in.

I just watched Michael Ninn's In The Garden of Shadows in order to review it.

I was so disappointed. I thought it would be a good movie for women but the sex in it was just so formulaic and so passionless. Hello. New to the tribe....
