"alternative porn and porn for women"

the porn industry is so, so ignornant of who we are and what we want... I find lots of examples while I work for Fleshbot (my day job) of people in the porn biz cluelessly trying to market "porn for women" and companies that slap a woman's name on a series and call it woman-directed, even though it's the same old shit...

anyway, I came across this post and wanted to see if anyone had any reactions. I really like that they at least give a shout out to our own Smart Girl in the house, Ms. Naughty! Though they couldn't bother to get the link to her blog right) but when I see them say things like, "safe bet for fans of chick-porn" I have to wonder who and what the fuck they're talking about. I do, in fact, want to slap them. plus, notice anyone missing? like *lots* of people!

I think the porn industry is trying to kill the human race. As it demeans and degrades women, sex, love, lust, and power, it also destroys men, because we all know if women are treated badly, then men are too. I hate the average garden variety porn, it's so gratuitous, and many men don't like it either. It hurts their spirit. It is an insult to female form and spirit. Women can celebrate their own sexual power just fine, and once the sex industry understands that (which it never will), men will be celebrated and very *very* satisfied. I know my man is super happy and sexy the more I embrace my sexuality and sense of power. It's such a turn on. And it's so disappointing when all I get are per-versions of sex that society trys to shove down my throat. I'm so glad for a network of women, and men for that matter, who can appreciate true sexiness. Comstock is awesome, and this tribe you started is so right on.. Thanks for being so awesomely creative and courageous. There will be some *extra* good luvin's for you, I'm sure! :0)

    Violet,

I've been watching so much bad porn lately doing these reviews, and I wonder if adult companies are marketing to women at all? Do they care what we want? It seems to me that the only companies that make women-friendly porn are independants who can barely get marketing because of the commercial/mainstream porn that has saturated the market with the same old crap.

Is there any hope for filmmakers who want to make quality porn for women (and other pan-sexy ppl in mind), or for women who want to watch a good fuck flick?

    I find it soooo frustrating!

    Domina :)

ps. thanks for the links.... Ms. Naughty has a great site!

I have bought and watched so much bad porn that I just wanna cry! There seems to be some formula that the industry insists on sticking with. I can't believe that no producer has had the balls to mix it up a bit (except Michael Ninn - he is one creative fella). I have no interest in the wimpy crap they market to women, I just want to see some hot, erotic sex where the woman is enjoying herself and actually gets off. I think women can sense when there is actual chemistry between two actors and that is the porn we find the hottest. Obviously chemistry ain't so easy to come by...sigh....

I totally agree. I love Micheal Nin's work. Very beautiful and creative. I just got the Psychocandy series and am impressed with them as well. The performances for the most part seem to be authentic and enthusiastic, which to me is the most important thing with getting into porn.

And, I also can't get into the softcore, fuzzy filtered porn that is supposed to be erotic/ for women. Why do producers think they've got to tame the hardcore action for women viewers? The harder, juicier, raunchier, the better I like it. I want to see a passion fuck fest!

I've been reading some posts on AdultTalkDVD and it seems to me that women are not the only ones that are sick of mainstream porn. I guess ppl are just so desperate to watch any porn, they will settle for bad porn and continue to be dissapointed and ultimately frustrated.

Hopefully, producers will start listening however... and start making better products. Or, the good films that are out there will get more exposure and force the market place to keep up and compete???

Thanks for the link Violet :)
It seems the people at Booble weren't as keen about our tour as they were about the one at Sssh. Ah well, can't win 'em all.

I can sort of understand where they're coming from when they talk about "safe bet for fans of chick porn" and Sssh.com. The Sssh members area is very softly-softly in its approach. They have ratings on each gallery in case their delicate members aren't ready for hardcore. I always thought it was a bit over the top to be honest. If the girlies are keen enough to pay money to look at your smut, they're not THAT delicate.

The whole "chick porn=soft romance" thing probably isn't going to go away any time soon. The porn industry is still having a hard time coping with the concept of women enjoying porn at all. And all those "couples" films seem to reinforce the idea... Those films are still made for men, but they put this "civilised" veneer over it in an attempt to make it palatable for "reluctant wives" (because it's assumed that normal women don't really want to watch porn, because they're "not visual"). There are quite a few decent "couples" movies out there of course, but all the sex in them is formulaic.

At the same time, I don't think there's anything wrong with having a bit of romance in my porn. I've made numerous small sites with that theme. The problem arises when it's assumed that romance and softcore is all women want (or can handle).

As for men getting sick of mainstream porn, I'm certain that there are plenty of them out there. We're actually getting quite a lot of positive feedback from men who've joined For The Girls because they were sick of the usual stuff and wanted something positive. We also get a lot of couples joining our site to use it together.

Hmmm, did I go off topic with this post? Ah well...
